I’m Dr. Katie Joy Kozowski, owner of Pure Joy Naturopathic Medicine.
I am a Naturopathic Doctor and Acupuncturist practicing primary care. I work with both pediatric patients and adults.
My goal in starting this clinic, and practicing medicine in general, is to guide people toward their optimal health through the many tools available to us – diet, movement, herbal medicine, pharmaceuticals, community, time in nature, the clinical expertise of both myself and my colleagues. and current medical research. My focus is on whole person medicine – mind & body.
What is Naturopathic Medicine?
There are 6 core tenants to Naturopathic Medicine
- First Do No Harm
- The Healing Power of Nature
- Nature includes what immediately comes to mind – mountains, trees, the ocean, meadows, blue sky, fresh air. The food we put in our bodies, the quality of air we breath, and the cleanliness of the water we drink.
- Identify & Treat the Causes
- Doctor as Teacher
- Treat the Whole Person
- Mind, body, soul. So often the focus of the medical conversation is on physical symptoms, but more and more we are realizing that the state of mind and soul directly impacts the symptoms of the body. Naturopathic Medicine acknowledges all facets of your health.
- Prevention
- Dare I say this is the my favorite? Let’s work together to address your current health concerns, and collaborate on techniques to optimize your long term health.

Why Naturopathic Medicine?
A little about me
I was born in Los Angeles and raised in the PNW. I received my undergraduate degree from Western Washington University in English Literature and spent some time as a freelance writer and editorial intern. When I was 25 I moved to Liberia as a Peace Corps Volunteer, but my time was cut short due to the Ebola outbreak. While there I witnessed their extremely strong sense of community and learned its essential role in our health and happiness. I then lived in Northern California and spent a year and a half working on a farm and learning about plants, herbs, and a new way of understanding our relationship with nature. My time in Liberia and California made me realize I wanted to be a doctor, and I chose Naturopathic Medicine for its integration of traditional and modern medical practices. I graduated from Bastyr University in 2023 with a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine and a Master’s in Acupuncture. I love working in primary care and pediatrics. I received Traditional Chinese Medicine training in acupuncture, tui na, fire cupping, moxibustion, electroacupuncture, five elements, and auricular acupuncture. I live in La Conner with my husband and daughter. When I’m not working you can find me running, hiking, biking, backpacking, paddle boarding, or just relaxing at home.
